8 Video Game Developers Who Totally Sold Out
6. Will Wright
Now some might be very quick to defend Mr. Wright here, seeing as the man and his team gave us the absolutely infectious Sims series, but as time wore on it seemed that the once pioneer of management titles was making more and more decisions to line his pockets, over developing titles with a bit more substance.
Famously he said that when making Spore that he wasn't chasing the Metacritic rating success of Half-Life 2 but instead the sales of The Sims 2, and while it's true that Spore was always meant to be a more casual game, it's a very strange thing to state to the press that you're not looking to make a game that will advance the industry in any meaningful way. It was something made all the more strange seeing how much boasting was going on at the time that Spore would indeed change the industry.
However, his biggest sellout decision would indeed stem from his decision to team up with EA, who let's face it, might well be one of the greediest publishers in existence today. Thanks to this we've ended up with SimCity games with constant DRM, Sims games with DLC's within DLC's, and a whole host of microtransactions gumming up every artistic piece going.
In fact, let's pay them a visit now...
