8 Video Game Franchises That Will Never Have Satisfying Endings

8. Half-Life

Beyond transcending into the realm of internet memedom, nothing has been heard about Half-Life 3. And while fans still hold out hope for some grand plan that will forever change the face of gaming, it's highly unlikely that we will ever see a release of the infamous third instalment of one of the best video game series of all time.

Whilst Valve would certainly have the player base for a third instalment and gamers would happily play the third one, it would take something spectacular to warrant a thirteen year development time. Perhaps by combining Portal and Half-Life - an idea that was clearly being set up in both series - the game would stand enough of a chance to be new and innovative, but if a direct sequel was all they could come up with, it would almost certainly be disappointing.

The original game was iconic and deemed great through sheer innovation, making it like nothing else at the time. And in the current gaming climate, where it's harder to be innovative, it's unlikely that Half-Life could hold that appeal and devotion it held before.

Ultimately, the series is doomed to unsatisfying regardless of the path going forwards, suggesting that maybe the game should remain as a running gag in the gaming pop-culture.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
