8 Video Game Franchises That Will Never Have Satisfying Endings
1. Assassin's Creed
The problem with Assassin's Creed, is that as a series, it feels as though it's almost already ended. Or at least, it had the opportunity to have a bombastic and gratifying ending, but opted instead for meaningless sequel after meaningless sequel.
Back when Assassin's Creed III ended, it felt like the series had finally built up to that epic showdown that would round off the franchise. Desmond was dead and a Precursor God was free from her prison to presumably wreak havoc on the world - the story was wrapping up perfectly with a worthy villain, and the plot threads to create a genuinely satisfying and encompassing finale.
And then... they had us piddle around in an office for two games before Unity and Syndicate gave us some cutscenes that focus on McGuffin no. 5283. It feels like the series has just gone flat and wasted the opportunity it once had, meaning that any ending they tack on now will be utterly unsatisfying.
The only hope in hell is that they amp up the overarching story in the next game and the subsequent trilogy it's proposed to a part of. But even then, giving the entire series the weighty and satisfying ending it deserves is a monumentally tall order.
One almost guaranteed to fall flat.
