8 Video Game Levels That Destroyed Your Childhood
1. The High Road - Crash Bandicoot 1
*Sigh*
You know what I'm going to say, and you know that when I do it's going to come from a burning pit of hatred deep within my soul because in both the original and the remake version showcased in the N.Sane Trilogy, The High Road is one of the most ball-breaking, disgustingly cheap and altogether emotionally draining experiences I've ever played through.
From its enemies that ignore the hazards you must cross over, to the turtle shells that require perfect timing and inputs, to the absolute bunsen burner of a developer who lit my arse on fire by putting ICE SLOPES into an already crushingly hard level, there is so little to love about this section, and with the remakes slightly iffy jumping mechanics, things got even worse.
Native Fortress was the slap in the face to wake players up to the fact that this game was going to get tougher, Hog Wild doubled down on that motif, but The High Road? This was like asking you to climb Everest with your nipples. Painful and oh so very difficult.
So once more with feeling.
F**K THE HIGH ROAD.
