8 Video Game Remakes That Need To Happen (And What They Should Fix)

5. Gladius - Remove Recruit Level Scaling

As a huge fan of the original XCom series, I've basically been raised on "eat your cereal made of broken glass and thank me for it" experiences, and as such feel intrinsically drawn to any squad-based tactics game, leading to one of my most surprising discoveries as a kid, the stone-cold classic known as Gladius.

For those who've never played it, to boil down the experience way too much you could call it XCom meets Gladiator but with a combat system inspired by old Tiger Woods games. Sounds mad right?

Well, when your gladiator school can comprise of mythical beasts, giants, and even vicious packs of wolves, yes Gladius is a bit out there, and I alongside many other tactics-hounds loved this title.

Gladius would do incredibly well in the current market of balls-hard gaming experiences, and when you consider the game shipped with a two-player co-op mode and a 4 player versus mode, could make for some amazing moments on current consoles and PC. However there's just one tweak that I'd love to see made, and that's to remove Recruit Level Scaling.

What this means is that when you rock up to a new town, all the new recruits are the same level as your party, meaning that you can swap members out without grinding for ages to scale them up. While this makes the gameplay a little quicker, it removes that feeling of connection you have with your gladiators as they can simply be cut out meaning you don't really care who's in your group outside of the main cast.

Would that make the game infinitely harder? Of course. Am I excited by this prospect as an avid XCom fan? OF COURSE.
