8 Video Game Sequels That Changed EVERYTHING
5. Yakuza: Like A Dragon
So, let's just say you're in charge of a really popular and incredibly profitable video game series. It's a franchise that's so popular that fans outside of its original country of origin voted in overwhelming numbers to get the game released in their region, and critically each title you pump out seems to top the prior.
It might be very tempting to shift into cruise control at this point right? You're almost too big to fail and thanks to the support of your fans you can pretty much let things carry themselves.
Well my friend, if you've ever had these thoughts then you might find yourself thrown out of the window along with a few bikes from the office of the Yakuza 7 developers, as they pretty much looked at something that clearly wasn't broken and said "IN THE BIN WITH IT!"
The Yakuza series is well known and much loved for its over the top narratives and even crazier combat, but in a move that shocked just about everyone, the devs announced that Yakuza 7 was going to offer Turn-Based Combat in favour of its previous 3rd Person Action model.
The fanbase, reeling from this severe swerve was unsure if such a change would work, but lo and behold Yakuza 7 not only went on to dominate sales charts but also crushed the top spot of many outlets' "Game Of The Year" polls.
