8 Video Game Sequels That Fixed EVERYTHING

6. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

It might seem to an outsider looking in at the franchise that at this point in time it's pretty hard to mess up an Assassin's Creed game, as without sounding too cruel, they're basically the same game churned out over and over.

You've got your large maps, you've got your collectibles and side mission icons making the world look like a never-ending checklist, you've got your parkour, your encampments to take down and your lookout towers that unlock new pieces of the world. Same game different skin.

However, it definitely was not smooth sailing when Assassin's Creed III rocked up, presenting a significant dip in quality from Assassin's Creed II and presenting dry, repetitive gameplay that many bounced off of.

In fact, the only part of the game that people praised was the sailing mechanics. So Ubisoft, being the cheeky whippets that they are, looked at this and said,

"Ok then. Fine. We'll just make the WHOLE GAME ABOUT THE SALTY SEA!"

And thus Black Flag was born!

And while it still held many of the same trappings, the events felt fresh because everything was set on the high seas, meaning that the only salty spray found here was from the ocean itself.
