Now a lot of you might be raising a rather quizzical eyebrow at this entry, seeing as for all intents and purposes, it looks like I'm stating that Fallout 3 was bad, which I want to make clear is not the case.

It's just that Fallout: New Vegas was so much better.

Coming from Obsidian Entertainment, New Vegas was put on the back foot from the moment it was given the greenlight. With a short turnaround cycle and the inability to implement a new engine, the devs worked round the clock to make New Vegas feel like a true sequel and not just something that fans would mark as a glorified expansion.

What we got was a title that addressed nearly every single fault that Fallout 3 had, from shortening the opening section so that players could get out into the Mojave as quickly as possible, a complete reworking of the skills system, as well as the speech check mechanic which actually became fun even when you failed!

Then there was the addition of proper aiming controls, nuanced storytelling, and memorable characters. In short, the only thing that New Vegas did wrong was the Caravan card game, but even that was strangely fun.
