8 Video Game Side Missions That BROKE YOU

3. Life of the Party - Borderlands 3

Nobody expects Borderlands of all video game franchises to get real, but the third game's "Life of the Party" side quest sure as hell brought the tears.

Mordecai wants to throw a birthday party for Grace, a young Vault Hunter he's been training, and so asks the player to pick up some supplies and turn up for the party.

Except when you get there, Grace's father reveals that she's actually dead, but he wanted to celebrate her birthday regardless to honour her memory.

And so, you can eat birthday cake, play grenade-throwing party games, go to the shooting range, and if you're feeling a teensy bit cruel, even try to break Grace's various mini-game records.

Once you've done all this and smashed a piƱata, the party will come to an end, with Grace's pops gifting you her gun, the Amazing Grace, as a way for her memory to endure.

That's... shockingly beautiful for a Borderlands game - a genuine meditation on grief and how to keep departed loved ones in mind.
