8 Video Game-To-Movie Adaptations That Get Way Too Much Hate
7. Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time
Look, it's never going to be okay that the studios tried to pass off Jake Gyllenhaal as a hero of Middle Eastern descent. It's weird that they decided to whitewash the cast like that; no one's arguing that point.
But if you're able to overlook that one transgression, there's actually a pretty satisfying action-adventure film to be found. It was a little bit of Indiana Jones mixed in with some Pirates of the Carribbean-style swashbuckling, though, admittedly, not quite as good as either of those franchises.
Many of the criticisms thrown at this movie involve wasting the immense talents of its all-star cast, which also includes Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. But those critics mustn't have watched the whole movie, because all three of those principal actors were given ample room to shine.
If anything, it's lead actress Gemma Arterton who was unfairly cast into the shadows for much of the film. But even she was given a couple of standout scenes to strut her stuff.
As mentioned above, Prince of Persia is more than a tad derivative - even aping part of another Disney property, Aladdin, where our hero valiantly defends a child who got caught stealing an apple - but at least it borrows from the best.
