8 Video Games In Desperate Need Of A Remaster
4. The Jak And Daxter Trilogy
Whilst Crash Bandicoot has been given the fully remastered treatment, and the original Uncharted Trilogy was updated for modern consoles, Naughty Dog's Jak And Daxter Trilogy looks doomed to be the developer's forgotten franchise. God knows why, because anyone who has played these games has a lot to say about just how brilliant they are.
Originating in the early days of the PS2, Jak And Daxter: The Precursor Legacy built on Crash Bandicoot's heritage by giving players a seamless hub-based open world in which to experience its accomplished, rewarding platforming. Its lively, endearing characters and subtle steampunk elements also added to the game's overall charm.
The sequels expanded upon the original's pure platforming focus, with Jak II: Renegade taking pointers from Grand Theft Auto with its heavily policed city, the ability to steal civilian vehicles and even the introduction of weapons, and Jak 3 introducing a gigantic desert wasteland and vehicle combat reminiscent of Mad Max. If that all sounds a little tonally inconsistent it's because it most definitely is, but the strength of the games themselves makes this easy to forgive.
The original trilogy was ported to the PS3 in 2012, but this was little more than HD support and a higher frame rate. While for many players this may be enough, it feels like a wasted opportunity not to bring such a stunningly realised world up to the current standard - and having seen what was achieved with Crash Bandicoot's N. Sane Trilogy, Jak And Daxter's sandbox would be quite the visual feast.
