8 Video Games RUINED By Microtransactions
1. NBA 2K13 Onwards
This is less an example of a single video game being ruined by microtransactions and more an entire franchise becoming riddled with a parasitic desire for your pocket change, as while on the surface each new NBA game published by 2K looks to be shinier and more polished than the last, it's actually just a veneer that is covering a deep-seated rot.
Things started off way back way in NBA 2K13 with the introduction of the games premium currency VC (Virtual Currency) and immediately got off on the wrong foot by placing a larger emphasis on cutting out the arduous grind of levelling up your single-player character though just buying your way to the top.
Fans were obviously pretty miffed about the experience, yet 2K seemed to take all of this legit criticism marked "why am I being asked to pay more for a game that was full price?" and mailed it directly to the bin.
I say that because instead of addressing the grind or making the time spent earning points in-game to upgrade your players, they doubled down on extending the grind and adding nothing to placate players.
This leads us to the more recent titles that are legitimately asking that you shell out an additional $60 dollars just to max out one of your players through VC microtransactions all the while only drawing out attempts to unlock these abilities without paying to the point where it makes shelling out seem like a good deal. Not only that but you were even asked to use VC to make trades or even manage your bloody team! That's ridiculous!
It's a truly stinky model and one 2K doesn't seem to be shying away from any time soon.
