8 Video Games That Made You Regret Killing Bosses
3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
As beautifully operatic as Metal Gear Solid 3's final battle against The Boss is, there's little glory or satisfaction to be had in taking down Big Boss' former mentor, even if it's something that categorically had to happen.
About 20 minutes after players pull the trigger on The Boss, it's revealed that the apparent turncoat didn't really defect to the Soviet Union at all.
Rather, she was a double agent tasked with infiltrating the ranks of villain Volgin and bringing the precious Philosopher's Legacy back to the U.S.
However, after Volgin dropped a nuke on Russian soil and the U.S. was suspected of carrying out the attack, The Boss had to keep playing the part of a traitor, taking the blame in order to prove the United States' innocence.
The Boss knew that you had to kill her and that she would be remembered as one of history's villains, with precious few knowing the truth - that she was really the biggest hero of all.
While killing your former mentor was always going to be a relatively somber, downcast affair, this additional sting took the anguish to a whole other level.
