8 Video Games That Punish You For Doing NOTHING!
7. Oregon Trail (1985)
Anyone who has played the popular text adventure, Oregon Trail, will know that almost anything they choose to do can have disastrous consequences.
Dysentery, cholera, drowning, killed by a native American tribe; these are just some of the ways your quaint little family can meet their end on their eponymous cross-country trek.
Throughout the game, the troupe will have to make numerous stops, either to stock up on supplies, rest, or weigh up their options before crossing a perilous river. Each of these times, you'll be given something of a 'passive' option - i.e. stopping to set up camp or waiting to see if conditions improve.
This can often be your downfall, as thieves can rob you in the night, and conditions along the riverside may actually worsen, which, if you then attempt to cross, can seriously set you back in ways it otherwise may not have.
Obviously, the other options you're given are usually just as much of a gamble, so it's not strictly 'worse' to play a little cautiously. But, in this case, it would be wise not to tread water too often under the false pretence of safety.
