8 Video Games That Took Forever To Get Good

4. Shining Force 3

When it comes to discussing the best JRPG's of all time, I often feel that the Shining Force franchise is often unfairly left out of the conversation, and if it were up to me, I'd be kicking down the doors to the banquet halls of Final Fantasy 6 and Grandia and slamming down Shining Force III so hard on the table that hot soup would splash in the eyes of Xenogears and ruin Persona 4's suit.

I love this game that much.

Although I will admit that it does take its sweet time to actually start, you know, actually going.

The issue is that there's a lot of story to tell in this game, and because of its three scenario structure, you get to see this story from three different perspectives. This means that it's the duty of the first scenario to set up everything, and as a result, means there's a lot of dialogue to wade through to establish all the moving pieces.

Warring empires, kingdoms on the brink, betrayal, and corruption, all are excellent to dive into in the second and third act, but the primary setup is a lot of walking and talking.

Still, by the time that you take control of Julian the amazing mercenary in Act Three, the game is running on full steam and it becomes one of the most satisfying RPG experiences I've played in a long old while.
