8 Video Games That Took Forever To Get Good
3. Kingdom Hearts 2
Blimey.
To call Kingdom Hearts 2 a bit of a slow burner feels like an insult to candles because the opening to this game feels about as fluid as trying to sail through treacle on a ship made of bricks.
It goes absolutely nowhere in a rush and hands out its tutorial information at a pace that makes erosion look nippy.
Now don't get me wrong, the opening hour or so that this comprises is still engaging from a narrative perspective, but in terms of what the player actually does and has control over, it feels so utterly minimal, almost to the extent that you feel you're basically moving from cutscene to cutscene.
Once the title kicks into life, Kingdom Hearts 2 is, in my opinion at least one of the stronger entries in the entire franchise, but these opening sections feel so lackluster by comparison that it's little wonder that people recommend the remix version of this game for the simple fact that you can skip all of the cutscenes in short order, turning what is a veritable slog into something much more manageable.
