8 Video Games That Turned Out Nothing Like We Were Promised

7. Killzone 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-4HNmuEAKg We can't speak for everyone, but when this footage first arrived as a means of showcasing the awesome power of the PS3 back in 2007, we were stunned: so that's what the next generation was going to look like, huh? Sign us up! Of course, this "demo" for Killzone 2 was soon after confirmed to be a pre-render, despite the fact that it so very clearly was created as a way of tricking the majority of game-inclined human beings into thinking they were watching gameplay footage. Why else would the developer choose to craft it in the first-person viewpoint, after all? So, yes, the footage in the video above was just the sum of a "tech demo," though the world collectively hoped and prayed - through several layers of disappointment, mind you - that Killzone 2 would still resemble the epicness of the footage in some way, shape or form. It didn't, really, and gamers were quick to criticise the developers because - at the time - they'd claimed what we were seeing had been rendered "in engine." Which it had. This, of course, still didn't mean it was gameplay footage, though. And even though we've moved a whole generation ahead since then, we're still yet to get a game as immersive as what you see here.
