8 Video Games That Utterly Failed To Live Up To The Hype
5. Mighty No. 9
Ooof. This one still hurts.
Every time I'm asked to talk about Mighty Number 9. I just see how easily a fanbase can be exploited and how dangerous a combination of "crowdfunding" and "nostalgia" can be when mixed together. This project was an unmitigated disaster and the only ones crying like an anime fan on prom night, were those that bought into this raging skip fire.
The title promised so much just from its tag of being the spiritual successor to Mega Man, who let's face it has had a very rough treatment by Capcom over the years, from his mockingly fat inclusion in Street Fighter X Tekken to the sheer lack of any games starring the Blue Bomber at all up until very recently. So of course fans were chomping at the bit in order to throw down with Keji Inafune's newest creation, and the team used Capcoms neglect as a marketing angle in order to hoover cash from wallets in no small measure.
However, as things progressed, it seemed like there were some ghosts in the shell within this supposedly Mighty number, as money started being funnelled from the game into other projects, demos kept coming out that looked....er....well !*$% s**t in all honesty, and it seemed that the more fans were giving, the less they were getting.
All in all the game dropped to universal disdain and the only way that this game could claim to be a spiritual successor is that it haunted the bones of something far greater that it could ever be.
