8 Video Games Where The True Ending Is The Bad Ending

2. Mass Effect 3

Now you might be looking at this entry and thinking to yourselves, "pretty sure that the Mass Effect canon definitely reads 'And the crew had a lovely time and shared space biscuits over some galactic hot chocolate' so stop talking out of your ass-teroid belt pal"

And you'd be entirely right, the franchise does accept the canon good ending of "human saves everyone and feels very smug about it", HOWEVER you have to bear in mind that when Mass Effect 3 came out the ending pissed everyone off.

Around the world voices cried out over unresolved plot points; of how the destruction of the relays basically doomed everyone to live in isolation, and how food sources for entire species would be unobtainable - so much so that the developers had to rectify this with a monstrous Extended Cut add-on, which fleshed out missing story elements.

They had in (mass) effect given us the bad ending, and until that DLC was released, it was most definitely the only true one. Thankfully the Legendary Edition kept these fixes and newcomers will never experience the salty rage we early adopters had to suffer through.
