8 Video Games You Bought Just For A Mini-game

2. Mercenaries Mode - Resident Evil Franchise

While it would be very wrong of me to state that people bought the likes of Resident Evil 4 JUST for a mini-game, seeing as most mainline entries more than justify their purchase, you can't deny just how utterly addictive this formula was.

Introduced in its rudimentary form with "The 4th Survivor" in Resident Evil 2 and expanded upon in Resident Evil 3, it was in 4 and 5 that the mini-game truly hit its mark. Here the player was locked into small combat areas with only one goal "Survive for the allotted time".

Sounds simple right? And in this instance you'd be right, but when you add in factors such as each enemy defeated giving you extra time, combos that you could build to achieve insane scores, and tonnes of characters to unlock some of which were unplayable in any other mode, and you had an instant attention grabber with a brilliant "one more go" mentality.

Resident Evil 5 might not have ticked everyone's boxes, but the mercenaries mode? I lost more hours to that than I care to admit, and was over the moon when the Gold Edition added in the ability to throw bones as BARRY BLOODY BURTON AND THAT ONE OF HIS CLOSE COMBAT MOVES WAS A JILL SANDWICH.
