8 Video Games You Didn't Know Had KILLER Hidden Features
6. Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Hyper Sonic!
One of the most exhilarating things about the early Sonic games, aside from the sheer speed on offer, was unlocking the incredible power of Super Sonic. This Saiyan-haired hedgehog form could be achieved by collecting all of the chaos emeralds in the Special Stages of Sonic 2, and basically turned the game to "very very easy mode" by offering players invincibility from enemy attacks, increased speed, and some ludicrous height on their jumps.
Rampaging through levels as this golden god was as hilarious for players as it must have been terrifying for Sonic's enemies. However Sonic & Knuckles took things even further. In this game, you could still collect the Chaos Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic, but if you then went and collected all of the Super Emeralds from another set of Special Zones, you'd be able to turn into HYPER Sonic.
This bad boy is no slouch, being faster than even Super Sonic, and now is completely invulnerable to drowning, plus can use a screen-clearing lightning attack to destroy all enemies. This completely flips the gameplay on its head as now you're screaming through levels at such speed it might melt your brain. You have to love Sega for hiding a new transformation in the game without giving any indication you can unleash the beast more than once.
Even Knuckles gets a look in with his own Hyper version!
