8 Worst Video Games Of 2020 (So Far)

5. Dawn Of Fear

If the original dialogue from 1997's Resident Evil were a game, it'd be Dawn of Fear. Because man is this a stark reminder of just how far the survival horror genre has come.

Even back in the late 90s, the jump from the original Resident Evil to Resident Evil 2 was night and day. Capcom would ditch this "fixed angles and tank controls" setup altogether in 2004 with Resident Evil 4, revolutionising third-person horror and gaming in the process.

All of which is to say, that while I can totally go for a well-balanced and produced old-school survival horror, get any one part wrong and it just feels tedious and outdated.

Dawn of Fear then, is a love letter to 90s PlayStation horror - even down to busting out a piano for the score to connote those early Silent Hill vibes. It asks you to paper over broken puzzles, muddy visuals and naff animations with intense nostalgia, offering very little other than reminding you of what you'd rather be playing instead.

You have to commend developers Brok3nsite for going all-out in an attempt to remind us why the early days of Resi and Silent Hill were so great... but you just play Capcom's own remakes instead.
