8 Worst Video Games Of 2020 (So Far)
4. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
This was a really sly, arguably genius - in a cold-hearted business kinda way - piece of marketing.
Modern Warfare 2 Remastered came just a month after Call of Duty: Warzone saw COD re-enter the battle royale space stronger than ever. There was talk of Activision treating 2019's Modern Warfare as a "platform" for various other experiences and modes to ostensibly be plugged into, and that game's menus shifted to accommodate Warzone's logos and access points.
With that in mind, when word of Modern Warfare 2's remastered campaign started to trickle out and we all saw the trailer, it was easy to assume it was taking the updated gameplay of 2019's MW, and applying it to such a legendary shooter campaign.
Nowhere in the trailer did it say anything otherwise, and as COD: Warzone is essentially Blackout with 2019's new engine, why not do the same here?
Well, because Activision would rather have money than take time for care and attention. Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was a visual overhaul and NOTHING else. All maps and the iconic Spec-Ops mode were removed, as this story-only package was sold for £20/$20.
Gameplay feels incredibly outdated next to how many leaps and bounds Infinity Ward have made since. This clash in marketing and expectation only crossed over into something that feels like a bare minimum cash grab.
