5. Wilson (Don't Starve)
Don't Starve is a fantastic indie-title created by animation-geniuses Klei Entertainment, responsible for last year's stealth-reinvention Mark of the Ninja. Starve puts you (initially) in the shoes of Wilson, a genius inventor capable of creating a myriad of contraptions from anything he finds in the environment. It's a skill you'll have to put to good use, being that the entire game is devoid of hand-holding or narrative, instead dropping you on a desert island and asking you to survive for as long as possible. Wilson does not talk or express himself very much outside of some strange instrumentation replacing his speech, but you find yourself becoming increasingly attached to him, and as the days go on he'll develop a healthy Tom Hanks-in-Castaway beard should you not shave. As well as this many people who have played Don't Starve remember the time they first crafted a spear from wood and stone, donning their leaf-strung armour as they set-about hunting down their first proper meal. It's this moment that takes Don't Starve so high up the list, and one that's personified in the subsequent chowing down of your enemy's felled carcass by roasting them over a campfire, that makes Wilson one hell of an unsuspecting badass.
