9 Fighting Video Game Characters With The Craziest Backstories

5. Voldo (SoulCalibur)

Voldo Soulcalibur

Arguably one of the most popular characters in the SoulCalibur universe, Voldo is also a total !*$% weirdo. He not only looks like an overzealous S&M fish, but he moves like someone is constantly electrocuting his spine and jamming thumbtacks into his toes.

His backstory is almost as bizarre as his appearance. It turns out that once upon a time Voldo was the right-hand man to an Italian arms dealer, Vercci, better known by his colourful nickname, The Merchant of Death.

After some hearty shenanigans now known to historians as the Italian Wars broke out, Vercci's massive possession of weapons became a target. So Voldo's boss did the only rational thing: He moved his entire fleet to an uninhabited island, constructed a giant pit (which became known to those searching for it as The Money Pit), and used it as a vault and personal tomb, instructing Voldo to kill anyone who came looking for the insanely large number of weapons.

Why did Vercci give a hoot about his weapons if he was just going to bury them in his own casket? WHO KNOWS? All Voldo knew is that he wanted to be a good little subservient, and proceeded to seal himself into the pit, as well, becoming known among explorers as the "ghost guardian." But Voldo wasn't dead. He was blinded from never seeing sunlight and insane from the isolation, but he was very much alive, just waiting to crab-walk his way into gamer's hearts.
