9 Flawed Video Games That Became Perfect After Release
3. Destiny
At launch, the original Destiny was an utter disappointment. Failing on pretty much every front, the ambitious first-person shooter struggled to weave a great single-player story, compelling multiplayer or deliver a world that fans could lose themselves in.
Focusing on the grind and repeating content rather than giving players a wealth of interesting things to do, the launch version of Destiny was lacking in unique gameplay sections, compounded by a fragmented story that was made even worse by stilted deliveries from the cast of actors.
Receiving a critical kicking at launch, Bungie attempted to turn things around with its DLC expansions. The Taken King in particular was everything the original title should have been, boasting a compelling story on the level most people expect from Bungie and being packed with imaginative gameplay sections.
Likewise, the devs constantly tweaked things that fans didn't like to make for a more enjoyable title overall. Peter Dinklage's narration as Ghost was ripped out entirely and replaced with the always-lovable Nolan North, while the levelling system was also tweaked to encourage players to maintain the grind.
Unfortunately, Destiny made its players pay extra to get the full experience, but at least it was an experience worth paying for.
