9 Franchise Revivals That Could Save The Xbox One

5. Battle Toads

Whenever E3 rolls around, you're guaranteed to hear whispers of a particular NES franchise making a long awaited comeback. This is of course, Battletoads, Rare's beat em' up side-scroller about three muscle clad frogs battling aliens. If Microsoft were to consider bringing back the 'Toads for a triple A sequel, they could bag themselves three beloved mascots and a franchise to stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Sonic, Crash, and Mario.

As it currently stands, one of Xbox's biggest issues is that it doesn't have many likeable personalities. After all, Marcus Fenix's scowl and Master Chief's helmeted stare don't quite elicit much charisma in comparison to the Nathan Drakes and Super Marios of this world.

That's where the Battletoads come in. Brash, bold and undeniably eccentric, these three burly frogs could be exactly what Microsoft needs to build a fun, character fuelled franchise.

The original games are a wide deviation in genre when compared to PlayStation and Nintendo's biggest icons, caring more for a fun combat system and some notoriously difficult racing segments (seriously, f**k Turbo Tunnel), than the platforming of their competitors. Given the chance, Xbox could build a franchise that stands out, and that's precisely the kind of advantage they should be pursuing right now.
