9 Greatest Platform Games You’ve Never Played
4. Astal
System: Sega Saturn
There are few bright spots in the Sega Saturn gaming catalog, but Astal has to be considered one of them. Vivaciously colorful backgrounds were highlighted by the games automatic camera mechanic which would change perspectives to add dramatic effect. The game was relatively short, but the gameplay and exciting boss battles made it a blast to play. The one thing that really stymied the game's commercial success was the box art that did not appeal to early Saturn adopters.
As the appeal of most platform games was 2 player co-op, a second player could play as Astal's blue bird companion. The bird was much more powerful that one would expect. With an arsenal that included basic pecking attacks, to much more powerful dive bombs and special speed maneuvers, two players could have a lot more fun that initially expected.
