1. Shadow Of The Colossus - Killing The Colossi

Is there anybody who didn't see this coming? Shadow Of The Colossus is one of the greatest games ever released, with one of the most harrowing bad guy twists gaming has ever seen. Our protagonist, Wander, is on a quest to destroy the Colossi - the giants that keep an ancient god dormant. This god promised to revive Wander's beloved in return, so it's all or nothing. The only thing to do in this game is to kill the said giants. Even though they seem monstrous at first, you can feel something's wrong as you kill them off. Some of them weren't even fighting until you struck first. And as the game progresses, the player can see how the main character slowly gets corrupted by some sinister force. Right off the bat we could tell that this isn't going to have a happy ending.

As it turns out, by killing the Colossi Wander was destroying the last earthly shards of power that was once kept by the old god. Destroying them all released the damn thing and let it possess the main character. True, Wander might have known what's going to happen to him, but we sure didn't. How could we know that we were the monster of this game, and not the towering creatures we murdered.
