9 Hugely-Anticipated Video Games Still To Come In 2018
5. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
There'll be many an adventure for Lara following Shadow of the Tomb Raider's climax, but developer Eidos Montreal is keen to stress that its trilogy-making third game represents the finale in Lara's transition from amateur archaeologist to fully-fledged Tomb Raider, so some form of closure is to be expected.
Does that mean the iconic dual pistols will be making a comeback for Shadow of the Tomb Raider? That's a big fat no, says game director Dan Bisson, as Lara's newfound fondness for the bow has essentially replaced the former as her trademark weapon of choice.
Gameplay will remain largely untouched from previous games, though quality-of-life improvements (revised swimming mechanics, refined stealth gameplay, etc.) are on the menu as a means of making Lara's quest to obtain a mysterious Mayan artefact that much smoother.
The nefarious Trinity organisation from Rise will be present once more, too, seeking out the same relic as Lara, only with more disingenuous plans (read: world domination) in mind than uncovering the past of a dearly departed relative. Heavy stuff.
Shadow won't be breaking the mould as Crystal Dynamics did with its reboot in 2013, but that's okay. A new narrative and world to explore is all a sequel to Rise ever needed.
