9 Modern Gaming Criticisms That Actually Suck

2. '30 FPS Cap Isn't A Dealbreaker'

For a while, the big differentiators between the Xbox One and PS4 were whether they could hit 1080p, and whether the games would be capped at 30 frames per second to achieve that resolution.

Fans admittedly got incredibly obsessive with these features, and it led to a whole bunch of think pieces and articles arguing that FPS doesn't matter. The claim was that a game running at 30FPS wasn't all that different from one running at 60FPS, and that it wasn't a debate worth getting caught up in.

Of course, the differences in how many frames can be displayed is absolutely a huge part of how enjoyable gameplay is, especially when it comes to twitchy shooters or action games. The more responsive these titles are, the more satisfying they are to play, and any dips in performance can completely throw an experience off.

'We don't need games running above 30FPS' has always felt like an argument pushed because consoles never have the power to support higher frame rates, and marketers don't want to admit they're lagging behind the competition.
