9 Most Discussed Video Game Plot Holes That Will Never Be Answered
5. Why Doesn't Miles Just Leave The Asylum In Outlast?
The original Outlast tells the story of Miles, a journalist investigating shady activities happening at the fictional Mount Massive Asylum. Although he was tipped off by a whistleblower, nothing could have prepared him for the horrific nightmare waiting for him inside the walls of the asylum, and Miles quickly finds himself trapped and surrounded by psychopaths trying to kill him.
It's a solid set up, but the game doesn't do a good enough job of making Miles' situation feel inescapable. While the main doors and the outside gates are locked, there's nothing stopping the reporter from, you know, leaving through a window like the one he used to enter the asylum in the first place.
Video games have always had a problem with artificially creating barriers for the player (just think about how many times you haven't been able to jump over a knee-high bit of rubble), but it becomes a major problem in Outlast where most of the horror relies on this botched logic.
