9 Mysterious Creatures Hidden In Famous Video Games

3. The Witch - Payday: The Heist

Being an online shooter that has you completing objectives in contained, somewhat linear environments, Payday: The Heist is a tight experience with very little room to explore. Still, developers Overkill Software managed to sneak in a rather terrifying secret regardless, in the form of a creepy witch that will jump out at the player if discovered.

Hidden within the DLC heist No Mercy, the witch will only appear if the hospital's power is cut, plunging your surroundings into darkness. She can then be found sitting on the floor behind a locked closet door (located in the hallway, near the reception desk), and will launch herself at the glass window, screaming, if the player gets too inquisitive.

The witch is an easter egg based on a similar creature found in the Left 4 Dead series, a creature that - like its Payday counterpart - will also rush the player, shrieking in a high-pitched tone. Both witches can also be found sobbing to themselves in dark corners, ready to attack anyone who interrupts their alone time. Fair enough really.

It's just fortunate that Payday's closet door is locked, because the witches in Left 4 Dead are quite a pain to take down if startled.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
