9 Polarising Levels That Almost Ruined Great Games

3. No Russian - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Massively effective comment on your average gamers' propensity to blow everything away that's right in front of them, regardless of the moral implication - or a horrendously misguided 'terrorist simulator' that stands for nothing other than sending a message through sheer brute force? The world couldn't decide then, and it certainly can't decide now - especially since Call of Duty in 2009 was in the process of blowing up into the cultural phenomenon it currently resides as. The creative team at developer Infinity Ward have been scattered across all manner of studios, and aside from the Black Ops games we've not seen COD go anywhere near such controversial material since; unless you want to count Kevin Spacey getting his Frank Underwood on to discuss geo-political presence and America as a self-destructing inevitability in Advanced Warfare. Regardless, Modern Warfare 2's foray into extremely challenging subject matter ended up essentially being cast aside in favour of talking about how much fun it was to rack up killstreaks or blast the evil muahaha'ing villain Makarov right in the eyelids. Let us know in the comments where you stand on it in 2015.
