9 Powerful Video Game Side Stories You Probably Missed
1. Billy In The Fridge - Fallout 4
Bethesda delivers again to bring us all the way to number one in a series that’s probably offered up more side stories that are both genuinely powerful and easy to miss than almost any other.
Of course, we’re talking about Fallout. Home to terrifying vault experiments, irradiated baddies, and the ramifications of nuclear fallout. And kids in fridges. That’s what we’re on for this entry. If you find yourself having a wander just south of University Point in Fallout 4 you may hear a voice calling out to you and asking you to get him out of the fridge he’s trapped in. This marks the beginning of an unmarked quest as the voice explains he’s been in there a really long time and he got in there to escape the bombs.
You know, those bombs that landed 200 years ago.
You break Billy loose and what do you know, he’s a ghoul now. You get the choice to take him back home or sell him to slavers and if you aren’t a piece of crap you can do the former. If you’re a smart piece of crap you can actually do both but let’s pretend we’re all good guys for a second.
By some incredible stroke of luck Billy’s parents are ghouls too, they live in the same place, and the whole group of them can be reunited. The slaver dude is really obsessed with you selling him this very old presumably weak ghoul though so they rock up and try and kill you to get him back.
You take out the baddies and it’s all very lovely, except for the voice of Billy’s mother which is honestly one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
