9 Reasons This Console Generation Will Be Dominated By PC

7. Windows 8+ And Steam Make Couch Gaming Easy

When people think of PC gaming, they usually picture some sitting at a desk with a large computer hooked to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. But these days, it's incredibly easy to hook your PC to a TV and play games. All you need is an HDMI cable to connect your PC's graphics card to your TV, a wireless Xbox 360 controller with a wireless receiver, and a wireless mouse to handle getting past the log-in screen. But there's a problem: text on PCs is tiny. If you sit at a normal distance from a TV, that text is barely readable, even if you crank up the settings to maximum. Thankfully, Windows 8 and Steam's Big Picture Mode solve those problems. While a lot of people hate Windows 8's start menu, there's a reason why it's also used on the Xbox One €“ big squares or rectangles with logos you recognize are easy to see and understand. Simply pinning the games or emulators to the start menu allows you to jump right into the action. Unfortunately, Steam, who sells 70% of PC games, doesn't make it easy to put your Steam games on the menu. But Steam's Big Picture mode does a good job of making your game library easy to sort through while you're on the couch. It also allows you to browse the internet without a mouse and keyboard, although it doesn't help at all if you want to watch a movie or play music that's actually on your PC instead of a streaming service.
