3. The Main Quest Is Just As Good As The Side Missions
Despite being home to some of the most memorable side missions Bethesda has ever created, the main questline of Skyrim was a complete mess.
Even though it had a strong foundation and an interesting initial premise surrounding the Dragonborn's return, the title's open world structure couldn't capture the immediacy or the scale that the narrative required.
Strangely enough though, despite having a similar do-what-you-want-when-you-want approach to its missions, The Witcher was still able to craft a grand fantasy story that remained intense and satisfying over its 100-hour runtime.
Building upon two other games worth of story, the third release was able to conclude long-standing plotlines while also introducing contained new ones of its own. Even though you could go off and explore until your heart was content, you rarely ever felt the need to because you wanted to see where the story was going next.
