9 Most Shocking Betrayals In Gaming History

8. Urdnot Wrex Goes Against Shepard's Orders

Wrex was one of the most popular characters spawned out of the first Mass Effect game; his gruff, no-nonsense attitude was fun to see unfold against your choices, and his top-notch voice performance gave him a worthy place alongside Commander Shepard. But as a member of the infamous Krogan species, his character was mired in conflict. The genophage had severely crippled his people, forcing them into a state of upheaval and distress. It was no surprise, then, that Wrex would do whatever it took to make sure the Krogans rose to supremacy in the galaxy once more. But when Shepard and his team arrived on Virmire, a cure for the genophage was in sight. The only problem was that the base holding all of the attempts to find the cure was going to be destroyed. This put Wrex into an awkward position, forcing him to go against his commanding officer. Wrex's betrayal is one of tragedy, as his turn is not purely villainous, instead it's driven by the desire to save his people. In this way Wrex saw himself as a hero, making your resultant choice of whether to kill him or not all the more difficult.
