9 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Far Cry 5
9. Guns For Hire Are More Of A Hindrance Than A Help
One thing that Far Cry 5 does well is encouraging players to interact with its NPCs. Everywhere you go, every new outpost you liberate and every random encounter you stumble across will have someone to talk to, and more often than not you can hire them to join you on your explosive adventures.
Whether you enlist randomers off the street or one of the nine official "Guns/Fangs for Hire" companions though, you're bound to get sick of them after a while. Sure, some come in handy in specific circumstances - Grace provides vital overwatch, Hurk's explosives can cause absolute mayhem, and Boomer can be the goodest boy on the planet - but 90% of the time they'll only get in the way.
Especially if you have two equipped at a time, the added firepower only breaks the pitch-perfect combat loop rather than adding to it. It can be great to see Cheeseburger the bear mauling dudes while a plane overhead kills three guys with one strafing run - but it's less cool when it happens while you're trying to take out the whole camp silently with a bow and arrow.
They have their uses, and calling them in for specific encounters is great, but you're better off dismissing them while you're out exploring.
