9 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Far Cry 5

8. Skill Trees Are The Same Old, Same Old

If there's one part of Far Cry 5 that's indicative of just how little has changed, it's the upgrade system. Pretty much compiled of carry-overs from previous releases, spending upgrade points you've acquired in the world on the same takedowns you've performed in the last three titles, wingsuits that have always been standard and the obligatory extra weapon slots feels plain-old stale.

Not only that, but the actual new additions to the system are even more uninspired and useless, with all of the companion perks being simple reductions in the amount of time they have to sit out if they're killed in action.

It's boring, plodding stuff, made even worse thanks to a lot of the returning perks being streamlined. All of the takedown upgrades are now confined to one perk, which is great in theory as it unlocks the whole moveset from the get go, but it reflects just how ignored that style of gameplay has become.

Where jumping on a guy, stabbing his friend, throwing a knife at someone else and using his sidearm to take down a final goon used to be central to the flow of combat, it's now just another drop in the bucket when it comes to your options, with only a few scenarios encouraging or making use of the tactic.

The skill tree is fine, but it's so inconsequential it might as well not be there.
