9 Video Games Ruined By Ridiculously Last Minute Changes
2. Dropping The Asymmetrical Horror - Dead Space 3
Believe it or not, the original idea for Dead Space 3 was awesome. While co-op in general has been seen as poison to the idea of a genuine survival-horror experience (primarily thanks to Resident Evil 5), Visceral had a great idea of how to make playing with a friend scary.
Their plan was to essentially rob each player of the comfort blanket that comes with having another human being helping you fight alien beasties. Without informing the player beforehand, originally the idea was to give each member of the party a slightly different experience in the form of hallucinations that would effect one of them but not the other. For instance, player 1 might turn a corner to see a grisly bloodbath, while player 2 would see a plain ol' hallway.
While the changes might not have been hugely different, it would have made for a far scarier game overall. Sadly, EA didn't really get the concept, and pivoted instead into a straight action focus. Throw in some of the first ever microtransactions, and Dead Space squandered its initial promise and lost its identity.
