9 Video Games That Mock You For Playing On Easy

8. The Evil Within

Tango Gameworks

While I often espouse my support of save scumming and anybody who wants to play their video games on easy because as far as I see it that whole ‘life’ game we’re all playing is hard enough, none of these games seem to agree with that sentiment.

The Evil Within has two fairly defining components going for it, apart from being a sorely underrated modern horror game, and those are its level of challenge and level of spookitude. Given it’s masterminded by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, neither of these are a surprise but what did have players taken aback was the description of the game’s easy mode.

Far be it for you to decide you’d like to take it easy since you’re supposed to go into this game prepared for a steep learning curve and with an extra pair of pants, but Tango Gameworks weren’t going to let you escape without a little teasing.

The standard difficulty setting for the game is called ‘Survival’ and says “overcome your fears” while your only other option, in this case the easier one, is called ‘Casual’. So far so good but then there’s the description that reads “For the weak and fearful” while enabling auto-aiming by default and giving you access to slightly more ammo. Feels like we could have got the latter without the jab.
