9 Video Games You Played Because You Owned The Wrong System
6. World Driver Championship
What You Wanted: Gran Turismo
Oh Gran Turismo I want to kiss your dirty tailpipe, because your first game was something of a rare joy. It looked beautiful, the cars handled so well for the time, and everything had an air of class that was just pristine.
But oh how the tears fell from the motorheads who made the foolish choice not to instantly know that the PS1 was getting this sublime title and instead bought an N64. After all, they only got World Driver Championship. Oh me oh my. See the game on a technical level is fine, actually leading the pack in many places against other racing games on the N64.
But as a game that was clearly trying to provide a Gran Turismo alternative it fell well short of the mark. It didn’t have nearly as much depth in the gameplay department and the car selection was not only meagre compared to GT, but the developers couldn’t get the actual licenses for the few cars they featured.
The result was a great experience but one that felt arguable knock off when compared to the large lad next door.
