9 Video Games You Played Because You Owned The Wrong System

What You Wanted: Mario Kart
Time was that you couldn’t find a better way to settle a score than through the use of Mario Kart 64.
Someone diss your sweet mullet? I’ll see you on Toad’s Turnpike, chump. Someone throw your football stickers into a bush? MATE I will do you in on DK’s Parkway. Someone shoves you into a locker and pees through the slot? Well I mean... get that kid expelled, but my point is that MK64 was the don of Kart Racers, blending in supremely addictive gameplay and next to perfect track designs.
However, while it blew most of the other would be racers out of the water, there was one other major kart contender that was rising from the depths on Sony’s PS1: Crash Team Racing. If you’ve played the remaster, you’ll know how much of a big deal this game was, but it was arguably even better on it’s original platform, as it took all of the lessons learned from Mario Kart and struck out in it’s own direction, rather than follow the curve.
What followed was rave reviews, a boost system that was easy to learn but difficult to master, and a brilliant selection of tracks spread over an Adventure Mode that made even travelling between races fun. The floor is open to which game was better, but there were certainly no complaints when Sony offered us this sweet prize in exchange for not having Mario.
