Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is often described as a "frustrated filmmaker," so it's not terribly surprising that he's talked his way into a number of movie and TV cameos over the years.

Kojima most recently appeared as a Yakuza enforcer in his pal Nicolas Winding Refn's TV show Too Old to Die Young, but in movie terms his most "notable" role is in Ryƻhei Kitamura's 2003 cult classic period actioner Azumi.

Kojima appears late in the movie as a bandit, and though he's incredibly tough to spot without first knowing, the movie's DVD release did include some behind-the-scenes footage of the industry legend hanging out on set (see below).

According to the man himself, he was initially just going to watch Kitamura shooting the film, but ultimately decided to join the production as an extra.

Given how many Hollywood chums Kojima has these days, it's honestly surprising he hasn't shown up in, say, a Guillermo del Toro movie yet.
