One of the coolest things about some of the earlier WWE games was the fact that they were, to some extent, open-world adventures. In the story mode, you could wander around backstage, bumping into other wrestlers and visiting the show's General Manager.

What was the point of all that? Well, certain dialogue choices could lead to a match or newfound rivalry, while there were plenty of Easter eggs for fans to appreciate which again helped lend that feel of actually stepping into the boots of your favourite wrestler (something competing in matches alone can't necessarily do).

In this AEW game, it could very much be used the same way. If you're playing as, say, Kenny Omega, then wandering around backstage could lead to you bumping into the Young Bucks (who you're hoping will be at ringside for your match that night). However, if you choose dialogue options insulting them or acting superior, then not only will they not be there, they might attack you after the bout takes place!

That's a simplified example, but one which should give you an idea of how much fun this could be.
