AEW Game: 10 Features We Must See In The Upcoming Console Title
5. A Grappling System
Something which made WWF No Mercy great was the fact that there was a grappling system which saw the player who initiated the grapple first in a match receive a distinct advantage. Not only was that key for multiplayer modes, but it could see you gain an early upper hand which would then be crucial for how things played out.
With this, moves were tiered based on how long the grapple button had been pressed, with short taps meaning you could hit a series of quick attacks, and longer ones offering the chance to take your opponent down with something a little more hard-hitting.
Of course, the longer you grappled, the easier it would be for your opponent to counter, so that created a fun risk/reward system that upped the stakes and tension in a match. This approach to gameplay would add to the ring psychology too, something else that's been sorely missing in WWE's often quite sterile video games.
It's during these grapples that you could hit the aforementioned combos which result in specific moves.
