2. Boston, Massachusetts

boston In fairness, this one struck me because I€™ve recently become a devotee of Fringe, but still€ The cultural capital of New England and its largest urban centre, Boston played a major part in the early history of the United States and continues to be regionally important. Should the franchise ever opt to visit here, there€™s a wealth of things to snipe at in the usual Rockstar fashion: the eye-wateringly elitist Ivy League university culture, €˜champagne socialists€™, dyed-in-the-wool Democratic Party loyalty and radical politics, purported general air of haughtiness, and more besides. The city is noted for its very large population descended from the Irish, alongside Italians and Polish and Russian Jews. If anything, this opens the way for a protagonist of either Irish or Jewish descent, as it is always insightful and educational to experience things through the eyes of historically brutalised groups. Given how progressive the region is, it would be even better if our hero were to be a woman. Admittedly, since the heyday of the twilight of the Cold War around 1990, Boston has been somewhat lacking in crime and deviance, with under 100 murders annually for the past few years. Still, the city assuredly has ne€™er-do-wells engaging in unlawful activities, so it would be interesting to see how these things were presented if we were ever to visit a parallel world interpretation.
