Alan Wake 10 Years Later: 10 Moments Worth Revisiting Bright Falls For
8. Barbara In The Study
Running
through the darkened woods with a flashlight as your greatest means of
defence, many of the scares you’ll face during your time with Alan Wake are the
result of atmospheric moments of gameplay where enemies will surprise you from the darkness, axes will skim past your head when you think
you’re safe, and you’ll desperately try to start a generator as Taken rush
towards you.
As nail-biting as these moments are, the game is also home to a handful of jump scares, too, that will periodically burst onto the screen in the form of sinister images, and its possible to complete the game without seeing them all.
One such scare comes early on when you first set foot in the idyllic cabin. If you decide to look around a bit before meeting Alice upstairs, you can find the study. Entering the room, Alan will talk about sensing the presence of the nightmare he had on the ferry before the veiled face of Barbara Jagger (the strange woman who gave you the cabin key) momentarily takes over the screen.
It may only last for a brief moment, but its impact will be felt long after.
