After the couple argue when Alan discovers Alice intends to use this trip to get him professional help with his writer’s block, Alan hears Alice, who has a serious fear of the dark, scream when the cabin’s lights go out. Taking control of Alan, players run into the pitch-black building to come to Alice’s aid. Discovering the backdoor open and the railing overlooking the lake broken, Alan dives into the water to save his wife. Cut to one week later.

It isn’t until much later in the game where players discover the events of what happened to Alan after he jumped into the lake - that he was greeted by Jaggar and lured back into the cabin to write his manuscript. Despite this newfound insight into that fateful night, however, how exactly Alice was dragged into the murky depths is still unknown. And it’s precisely this ambiguity that renders these events so sinister, keeping the mystery alive for so long.
